Lomé, March 4, 2025 – (©AfreePress)- The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in partnership with the National Sports Commission of Nigeria, has announced the much-anticipated return of the prestigious ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament. The 13th edition of this renowned competition will be officially launched on wednesday, march 5, during a press conference at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja.
The event will feature key speakers, including, Ambassador, Francis Chuks Njoaguani, Director of the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Center, Mr. Malam Shehu Dikko, President of the National Sports Commission of Nigeria and Director in charge of elite athletes.
Organized as part of the celebrations marking ECOWAS’ 50th anniversary, this tournament aims to strengthen regional unity and cohesion through the promotion of traditional African sports, empower young people and preserve cultural heritage, and showcase the athletic talent of West Africa.
The tournament will take place from March 6 to 8, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Velodrome in Abuja.
ECOWAS invites sports stakeholders, media professionals, and the general public to participate in this historic edition, which promises to be a vibrant showcase of athletic excellence and cultural heritage in the region.
